SENIOR TURKISH WORLD BANKER KEMAL DERVIS ARRIVES IN ANKARA.
Senior Turkish World Banker Kemal Dervis (C) arrives in Ankara March 1, 2001 for talks with the prime minister that many are hoping will herald the formation of a new economic team capable of restoring calm to financial markets. Dervis who spent more than 20 years at the World Bank, is being enticed back to Turkey from Washington to bolster the economic team charged with cleaning up after a financial crisis that forced Ankara to abandon its control of the currency, the centrepiece of an IMF-backed disinflation programme.
