USS CONSTELLATION LEAVES SAN DIEGO.
The crew of the USS Constellation man the rails as the ship leaves its
home port of San Diego November 2, 2002 for a six month deployment in
the Arabian Sea. More than 8,000 sailors on the Constellation, five
other San Diego-based ships, a Pearl Harbor-based fast attack submarine
and a Bremerton, Washington-based fast combat support ship began their
deployment today as the United States prepares for a possible war
against Iraq. The Constellation is a Kitty Hawk-class aircraft carrier
that displaces nearly 88,000 tons and is home to more than 5,500
sailors. It carries some 75 combat support and support aircraft, and
has a 4.5-acre flight deck. REUTERS/Mike Blake
