Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam holds a shell as he speaks at a news conference about successes in attempts to eradicate the Giant African Land Snail in Miami, Florida August 29, 2013. In the two years since the snail was discovered in Miami-Dade County, officials say they have detected and eliminated 128,000 of the snails. The snails are considered one of the most damaging in the world because they consume at least 500 types of plants and can cause damage to buildings and carry dangerous parasites.
