NRA EXECUTIVE LAPIERRE SPEAKS TO CONVENTION.
National Rifle Association Executive Wayne LaPierre speaks before the NRA annual convention in Charlotte May 20. The NRA, formed in 1871 to promote rifle marksmanship but best known these days for its defence of the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment right to bear arms, has added about 200,000 members and $10 million in contributions in the past six weeks. The surge in new members was fuelled by the debate in Congress over gun control, and reaction to last weekend's Million Mom March in Washington pressing Congress to pass gun control legislation, including licensing guns and registering gun owners.
