COMMANDING OFFICER CAPTAIN KENDALL CARD SPEAKS ON BOARD THE USS ABRAHAM
LINCOLN IN THE GULF.
Captain Kendall Card, Commanding officer of the USS Abraham Lincoln,
speaks on the bridge of the aircraft carrier, one of three stationed in
the Gulf, March 8, 2003. Captain Card was confident the United States
could prevail if it goes to war against Iraq even without the element
of surprise after Washington set a March 17 deadline for Iraqi
disarmament. The USS Abraham Lincoln is part of an eight-ship battle
group operating in the Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch
patrolling the southern 'no-fly' zone over Iraq and backing up
Washington's tough stance on Baghdad. REUTERS/John Schults
