Masanori Niimi (L), of Japan, is joined by colleague Xiangyuan Jin (R), dressed as a mouse, as they accept the 2013 Medicine Prize during the 23rd First Annual Ig Nobel Prize ceremony at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts September 12, 2013. According to the citation, they received the prize "for their research assessing the effect of listening to opera, on heart transplant patients who are mice." The annual prizes, meant to entertain and encourage global research and innovation, are awarded by the Annals of Improbable Research as a whimsical counterpart to the Nobel Prizes which will be announced next month.
