USO President and CEO Sloan Gibson (L) attends the annual USO Gala with Gen. Richard B. Myers (retired), (C), and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Martin Dempsey, in this file image from Washington, October 7, 2011. Embattled Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned on Friday following a meeting with President Barack Obama that came amid a firestorm of outrage over delays in medical care for U.S. Veterans. In naming Sloan Gibson to lead the embattled Veterans Administration while he seeks a replacement for Eric Shinseki, President Barack Obama picked an Army Ranger proven in corporate and academic settings but also sensitive to the needs of the military off the battlefield. Gibson, the son of a World War II Army tail gunner and grandson of a World War I veteran, went to West Point before joining the elite Army Rangers.
