A STREET VENDOR PROTESTS NEAR ST. PETER'S SQUARE.
A Jewish street vendor protests near St. Peter's Square December 27. Jewish street vendors staged a protest at the Vatican after they were banned from selling Roman Catholic trinkets near St. Peter's Basilica during Christmas and the start of the Holy Year. The vendors usually sell rosary beads, crucifixes and other religious trinkets from temporary stalls along the avenue. But with thousands of tourists flooding into Rome to mark the start of the third Christian millennium and Pope John Paul making frequent public appearances, police have banned the stalls from December 24 to January 9 as security measure.
