Turtles are freed into Orinoco river while being free in Venezuela
Turtles are freed into the Orinoco River in Santa Maria del Orinoco, about 700 km (435 miles) south of Caracas May 6, 2006. Scrambling over each other to reach the Orinoco waters, almost 30,000 palm-sized Arrau green turtles were released over the weekend from a sandy island, into the huge river, as the latest part of the Venezuelan government's 12-year program to preserve the species.
