LIKUD VOTER TOUCHES COMPUTER SCREEN AS CASTS BALLOT
A Likud party member touches a computer screen as he selects and votes for Likud candidates in the March 26, 1996 opposition party primary vote. For the first time in Israel, Likud party voters cast their ballots on computers which show the candidates listed as numbers. The tally will be processed by computer when the polls close this evening. Behind are additional cardboard voting enclosures. Israelis go to the polls in a general election on May 29 when Prime Minister Shimon Peres of the Labour party will face Likud party leader Benjamin Netanyahu in the first direct election of the prime minister.
