SATELLITE IMAGE OF TROPICAL STORM CLAUDETTE.
Tropical Storm Claudette sped across the western Caribbean Sea toward
the Yucatan Peninsula on July 9, 2003, prompting storm alerts in
Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and part of Mexico. Forecasters at the
National Hurricane Center in Miami said there was still a chance it
could reach hurricane strength of 74 mph before crossing over the
Yucatan into the Gulf of Mexico on Friday. Jamaica was buffeted with
rainy gusts on Wednesday and forecasters warned the island to expect
high tides, battering waves and up to 6 inches of rain along its
southern coast as Claudette skirted past. Image taken by the NOAA
