FLORIDA BIRDS TESTED FOR WEST NILE VIRUS.
Brenda White, Avian Necropsyist for the Florida Department of Health,
holds a dead blue jay before performing a necropsy, part of testing for
the West Nile virus, in state laboratories in Tampa, Florida August 8,
2002. The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes which have bitten infected
birds. The laboratory performs tests on all dead birds which officials
suspect of carrying the deadly virus. Prevention efforts are then
directed to the affected areas. REUTERS/Joe Skipper
