TOKYO MONEY DEALER HANDS DOLLAR TRADING TICKET TO KIMONO-CLAD CLERK IN TOKYO.
A Tokyo money dealer hands a dollar trading ticket to a clerk in New Year kimono at a foreign exchange brokerage January 4, the first trading day of the new millennium. As Japan's financial markets began the first working day of Year 2000 on Tuesday without the bite of Y2K bugs, the dollar was pushed above 102 yen by repeated rounds of central bank intervention after the Japanese yen took its cue from gains in Tokyo stocks and began the New Year on a strong note.
