Sagar Island, Republic of India
Hindu pilgrims walk on the beach at sunset at Sagar Island, 150 km (95
miles) south of the eastern Indian city of Calcutta on January 13,
2002. Monks and pilgrims came to Sagar Island for a holy dip at the
confluence of the river Ganges and the Bay of Bengal for the 'Makar
Sankranti', a festival marking an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar.
