WORKERS TRY TO OPEN SEWAR IN FLOODED STREET.
Workers try to open a sewar in a flooded street in the southwestern part of Belgrade July 10. Heavy rain and floods ravaged parts of Yugoslavia on Saturday, compounding misery in a country already battered from 11 weeks of NATO bombing, officials said. A tropical-like downpour began on Friday evening and continued for more than 18 hours, forcing people out of their homes from Belgrade, south to central Serbia around the cities of Kragujevac and Cacak. Belgrade's small Topcider river overflowed its banks and flooded almost the entire suburb of Ripanj, where 10 were reported missing.
