Zimbabwe's Chief Justice Anthony Gubbay leaves the Supreme Court March 1, 2001. Gubbay turned up for work at the chambers defying an order from President Robert Mugabe to take early retirement. The government is on a campaign to force out independent Supreme and High Court judges and replace them with those more acceptable to the ruling ZANU (PF) party.
