An Indian devotee offers a hibiscus to a cobra during the Hindu
festival "Nag Panchami" in the village of Khadiatola, about 90 km (56
miles) north of the eastern Indian city of Calcutta, on August 17,
2003. About 50,000 devotees attended the festival on Sunday to worship
the snake goddess. The snake is one of the most revered animals in
